Description editor

This guide explains how to use the Description editor to customise the look of your listing descriptions. A similar editor is also available in Linnworks email features.

NB! Some sales channels do not allow or support HTML tags in product descriptions (e.g. Amazon). Please check the policies of the needed sales channel for full information.

Table of contents:

Description tags

In the description editing screen on configurators, listing templates and the Listing Descriptions tab, you will see an option Insert description tag with a dropdown. These tags are used to take product information saved on a stock item and display it within your description. There are tags for product information or item extended properties.

To insert a tag, click the Insert description tag box and select a tag from the drop-down menu. Tags can be used in both the Visual Editor and HTML Source tabs of the editor.

Description tags are not replaced with the relevant data until they are sent to the channel. This ensures that channel descriptions will be using the most up to date information, as SKU attributes can be changed. Tags can be identified by brackets and braces around a keyword, for example: [{PRODUCT_INVENTORY_TITLE}].product tags

Description tags can be used to create generic descriptions and can also be combined with the use of expressions. See examples here.

Product properties

The Insert description tag dropdown displays all basic product properties from the Product Details screen of a SKU.

Size [{PRODUCT_PROPERTY_SIZE}] Displays the contents of the Extended Property 'Size'.

Visual Editor

The Visual Editor is similar to any standard text-processing program and can be used to customise your listings design and layout by using a range of controls. The toolbar at the top of the editor enables to format text, add images, and insert links to other content.

Most of the buttons and menus are similar to those found in word processing software, however, there are a few extra options that either differ in functionality or are less commonly used.

Clicking this button will display a list of available fonts. To use them, highlight the text you want to change the font for and select the new font.

This is a selection of pre-formatted styles that can be applied to text and tags. To use them, highlight the text you want to format and select the style from the drop-down. Multiple formats can be applied to the same text: for example, heading 1 and Italic.

Fullscreen

Clicking Fullscreen maximises the editor window to the size of the browser window. Clicking the button again reduces the size. Note that the drop-down box of description tags is not displayed in fullscreen mode.

HTML Source

The HTML Source tab can be used for copy-pasting and adjusting pre-designed HTML templates. This will store the code as it is, and no changes will be made to it. If your template requires the use of specific CSS files, then these can be uploaded to Linnworks.net as external links in system settings (see more here), and referenced within the HTML template.

NB! Any changes made in the Visual Editor to a pre-defined HTML may overwrite the original code. To keep your pre-defined HTML code as-is, avoid making changes in the Visual Editor and rely only on the HTML Source tab.

There are two sample HTML  templates for eBay available for you to download and use within Linnworks:
