Importing Extended Properties
This guide is a walkthrough of the steps involved in adding extended properties to a SKU in bulk. Extended properties allow you to add richer details to a product, which can then be used to create listings. For more information on extended properties, please see our main Extended Properties guide.

Extended Properties are uploaded as an Inventory Import, using the same process as other Inventory Imports. More information on bulk importing via CSV file can be found here. Extended properties are most often used to describe attributes and variations of a SKU, but can also be used to add information to Stock Item Labels or provide channel specific information. Further details about Extended Property types can be found here.
Preparing the CSV File
One of the key differences when uploading Extended Properties, as opposed to predefined Linnworks fields such as Title or Stock Level, is that there is no restriction on the name of the property. There are a few exceptions, particularly when designing Stock Item Labels, which is discussed below.
There are no specific columns required for Extended Properties, other than SKU and Extended Properties. Please note that inclusion of other columns in the CSV file may come with their own column requirements.
In the following example we will add some depth to the details on a consignment of shoes by using Extended Properties. The basic product information has already been uploaded, such as price and title. When uploading Extended Properties via CSV file, the column name will be used as the property name when the column is mapped to Item Extended Property. This can be changed if desired. Below is an example of the CSV used:
The above data appears to contain repeated data. When creating Stock Item Labels that use Extended Properties, the name of the extended property has to be called Additional, suffixed with a number between 1 and 5. As you cannot map a single column to more than one property in one upload, it is easier to duplicate the information in the CSV file, rather than run the import twice.
Perform the upload as per the creating imports documentation.
- On the mapping screen, map your columns as appropriate with columns representing extended properties to Item Extended Property
- This will create two input fields on the right
- The top field represents the Extended Property Name. By default this is the name of the column in the file
- The bottom field is a drop-down menu where the property type should be selected
- Once all properties are mapped, continue with the process as described in our creating imports guide
Please Note! The property type drop-down menu may have options that do not appear in the type overview here. These are associated with older Linnworks accounts. The extra types have now been deprecated, but remain in existing accounts as a legacy property.
